PEOI July 2010 Newsletter

The only news of significance to report is PEOI’s import of a first MIT courseware (see below). Of course, importing open education content is the easy part: the real work of the imported MIT course will now start. First, the writing is rather off-the-cuff, and needs to be thoroughly edited. Then, assignments, reading lists, cases, summaries, review and test questions, must be added. Anyone in PEOI’s IT course development team interested in this work, make yourselves know.

Finally, PEOI’s 2009 Annual Report is still being written. It is therefore not too late for you to submit your photos or stories about your involvement at PEOI.

Other new developments:

– major recent work completed,
– what PEOI is working on now.

Thank you for all this good work. It should be mentioned that this work is only the one recorded when authors, editors, translators and other volunteers are online, make use of PEOI’s procedures, and their work is recorded. It is known that twice as much work is carried out offline, which is not recorded, and we thank those who put in all these efforts.

WHAT PEOI IS WORKING ON NOW

PEOI needs to be able to import PDF files. The procedure “Import pdf” is capable of converting most of the content of a PDF file into HTML, but not all. Anyone who has worked with PDF format specifications is urged to make him/herself known to me.

CONCLUDING REMARKS

PEOI is a community of volunteers. It exists only if everyone in that community is active. Please do not let others do your part.
