PEOI September 2011 Newsletter

September 27, 2011

Greetings to all PEOI volunteers:

This newsletter does not any major news, but a series of diverse small items to report. First, I want to apologize for my lateness in answering some of your messages or clearing some registrations. This is due to telephone and internet interruptions since hurricane Irene devastated a portion of Schoharie county in upstate New York, where my country house is located. It has been three weeks that my internet there is not working.

Another small item pertains to the distribution of PEOI’s newsletter which will now take more time to reach you. This is because the hosting server has advised PEOI that the August newsletter has been barred as spam by some of your internet service providers, and has threatened PEOI of suspending all PEOI’s outgoing email unless the mailing is not spread out over time. The reason for this problem is that the numbers of PEOI’s students and volunteers have been growing so fast (as can be observed in the statistics below). PEOI has more that 8,000 student and more than 5,000 volunteers: this is a lot of messages. Of course, these messages are not spam

Jean Paul Gagnon has been placing some interviews on YouTube, which you can view at http://www.youtube.com/user/JeanPaulRGagnon?feature=mhee. He will use these interviews in his course in political science that he has been developing at PEOI. Authors in this discipline are welcome to cite or link to these interviews. If you have video material that can be useful in PEOI’s courses, placing it on YouTube can be an effective way of making it available to a wide audience. It can also be useful to promote PEOI and attract students if PEOI is mentioned in the video.

A student has requested a supervisor for his studies in Financial Analysis at PEOI. Please let me know if you are interested and qualified to act as instructor in this subject, and earn a negotiated fee for your service.

Thank you for all this good work. It should be mentioned that this work is only the one recorded when authors, editors, translators and other volunteers are online, make use of PEOI’s procedures, and their work is recorded. It is known that twice as much work is carried out offline, which is not recorded, and we thank those who put in all these efforts.

WHAT PEOI IS WORKING ON NOW

PEOI should be using social media such as Facebook and YouTube. If you have ideas on how to do that, let me know.

CONCLUDING REMARKS

The news that PEOI’s newsletters can be deemed spam is obviously disturbing. But it is also gratifying because it shows how much PEOI has grown, thanks to you. And PEOI can only grow if each of you take part in its growth. PEOI’s course development has still a long way to go. So please stay with us. Let us finish our work. Thanks.
